The Swan is renowned for its excellent home cooked food. David and Jo-Ann, together with chefs Sue and Charlotte, ensure that the menu consists of only fresh, local and seasonal produce prepared on the premises.

Top quality free-range meat is sourced from a local butchers, and all fresh fruit and vegetables are sourced locally. The smell of herbs can be smelt around the garden, as The Swan grows many of its own herbs, including wild garlic, mint and chives. Delicious, home-made bread is made every morning by the chefs, and is always a winner with the customers.

The menu constantly changes to take advantage of the best ingredients, so customers are never stuck for choice.

Jo-Ann is also a fond believer in offering a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, so there is always an excellent range of options for those who prefer not to eat meat. Vegetarian dishes are very different to many other food establishments, with the menu previous offering cheese and pickle bread & butter pudding, and a sweet & baby potato, red lentil creamy coconut curry. We are recommended by the Vegetarian Visitor Guide 2011, VeggieSuffolk.co.uk and VeggieHeaven.com.

Food is served in the restaurant, either of the bars, or in the extensive gardens (weather permitting!)

With its open fire, candlelight and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant is an ideal setting for a special occasion or a mid-week visit!

Booking is very advisable. Please contact us for details.

The Swan also prides itself on having an excellent team, and without them it would not be in the position that it is in today. The staff are all very friendly, efficient and keen without being obtrusive towards customers. The restaurant itself has a relaxed feel and customers are made to feel this way too.

Customer Reviews

"The roast beef was declared the most amazing Sunday roast ever served, with the most vivid, vibrant green broccoli, gorgeous roast parsnips and beautifully cooked vegetables ever seen. The fishcakes were huge and served with a lovely fresh green salad, dotted with tiny friend potato cubes and a buttery sauce – stunning. The strawberry cheesecake was clearly homemade with love and absolutely to die for, the raspberry sorbet was presented in a stunning blue glass dish and tasted divine, the creamy, smooth rhubarb crème brulée was the nearest to perfect a crème brulée can be! "Just to say thank you to all at The Swan Inn. Your service was second to none. Your food was absolutely fantastic. The surroundings magical. This was a very important meeting and evening out for me and my guest. The staff and Management of The Swan made it perfect. Thank you all. I will recommend you to everybody I know." - P. Wittam

"We came for lunch on Saturday and was so impressed with the quality of the food and presentation I just had to write and tell you. The scallops were first class, of Morston Hall standard... and the liver and mash dish was to die for. As well as the food the Shiraz was wonderful. We will be coming to see you again and I'm already spreading the word! Thanks again to your team - it was excellent." - C. Moyse

"Lovely old pub oozing history with great food, beer and wines. Friendly service; obviously the hub of village life." - Anonymous

"Excellent food and superb historic pub - not many pubs like it in Suffolk. Would highly recommend the The Swan Inn if you are looking for somewhere different to try." - Anonymous

"We, a party of 4, went to the Swan for a Saturday lunch on a cold winters day which made the huge fire in the bar even more welcoming! The building itself is steeped in history and is ideally situated in the lovely little village of Hoxne.

The meal itself was very good with several very interesting items on the special board and an unusual standard menu which was a cut above normal pub fare - and make no mistake this is still very much a village pub as opposed to a 'gastro pub'. We noticed several locals just popping in for a pint and a chat - and a warm up from the impressive fire! We will be going back in the summer and look forward to sitting outside next to the small river that runs adjacent to the Swan - hopefully we won't want the fire then!" -

"Very warm friendly atmosphere, very dog friendly, great (VERY) open (LARGE) log fires. Excellent range of proper ales, fantastic food, great service and top notch beer festivels. I've made it my local and its 15 miles away, need i say more?" - Anonymous
